(Medical Procedures and Tests)
This article will help you learn about the cosmetic arm lift procedure (brachioplasty) and how to prepare for it.
What is brachioplasty (arm lift)?
Brachioplasty, or arm lift surgery, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes excess sagging skin from the underside of the arm. The purpose of this procedure is to improve the external appearance of the arm.
- When is brachioplasty performed?
- Brachioplasty is usually performed in the presence of excess, sagging skin resulting from:
- Changes in skin elasticity that occur with aging.
Significant weight loss leadingto sagging, excess skin.
Lymphedema.
- How do you prepare for brachioplasty?
- Before surgery:
- Stop smoking.
- Complete all required medical tests.
- You will be asked to sign a consent form granting permission for the procedure. Read the form carefully and ask questions if anything is unclear.
- You will be asked about the last time you ate or drank; if the procedure requires anesthesia, you will be instructed not to eat or drink for 8 hours prior to surgery.
- Inform your doctor if you have any allergies to medications or anesthesia.
- Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking (prescribed, over-the-counter), vitamins, herbs, and dietary supplements.
- Inform your doctor if you have a history of bleeding disorders, or if you are taking blood thinners (anticoagulants), aspirin, or other drugs that affect blood clotting. You may be asked to stop these medications before the procedure.
