Retina Surgery
This topic will help you understand retina surgery and how to prepare for it.
What IsRetinaSurgery?
- Retina surgeries are medical procedures aimed at repairing damage caused by retinal detachment. There are several types of retina surgery, including:
- Retinal Fixation Using Gas: This involves injecting a gas bubble into the vitreous fluid or body inside the eye. The bubble presses against the retina, helping return it to its normal position. After this procedure, your doctor may ask you to maintain a specific posture for a few days.
- Scleral Buckling or Fixation: This involves placing a silicone band or beltaround the inside of the eye to keep the retina in place.
- Vitrectomy: The doctor surgically removes the vitreous body and then injects a bubble of air, gas, or oil into the eye to return the retina to its position.
After surgery, your doctor may require you to maintain a certain posture for a few days and follow specific instructions to ensure treatment success.
When Is Retina Surgery Performed?
Retina surgery is performed when a person experiences a retinal detachment or tear, as well as certain other retinal diseases, as needed and determined by the doctor.
