When does a sprain occur?
A sprain is an injury to the ligamentous tissues—the tissues that connect bones and stabilize joints. A sprain can occur while exercising or playing sports, or it can result from a fall or a forceful collision.

- Pain or weaknessin theaffected area.
- Swelling and bruising in the affected area.
- Difficulty or inability to walk.

- How to manage a sprain?
- Stop any exercise or activity and try to rest.
- Apply an ice pack to the injured area for up to 20 minutes every 2 to 3 hours.
- Wrap a bandage around the injured area to provide support.
Elevate it on a pillow as much as possible.
- Seek emergency medical help if any of the following occur:
- The injured area does not show improvement after treatment.
- The pain or swelling worsens.
- You experience a fever or chills.
There is an inability to walk due to intense pain.
