This page will help you prepare and provide first aid for wounds.
When do wounds occur?
Wounds occur when there is a cut, tear, or scratch on the skin's surface. Some wounds do not require medical intervention and can be treated at home. Wounds are among the most common injuries, and open wounds can be managed with first aid, which helps control and reduce the risk of complications, such as infection, and facilitates faster, proper healing.
How to deal with wounds?
- Wash your hands with water and soap to prevent infection.
- Stop the bleeding; minor cuts and scratches usually stop bleeding on their own; if bleeding continues, gently press with a clean cloth until it stops.
- Cover the wound with a bandage or a clean cloth around the wound.
- Disinfect the wound after the bleeding has stopped using a saline solution.
- Remove any jewelry around the wound, if present.
- Take painkillers if needed.
- Change the bandages daily.
