What is Dwarfism?
Dwarfism, also called short stature, is a noticeable shortness in height. Dwarfism is defined as when the adult height is 147 cm (4 feet 10 inches) or less, with the average height of individuals affected being around 122 cm (4 feet).
There are two main types of dwarfism:
Disproportionate dwarfism: This occurs when the body parts are not proportional to each other. For example, the trunk may be of average size while the lower part of the body is very short.
Proportionate dwarfism: This occurs when all body parts, such as the head and limbs, are smaller in size but remain proportional to each other.

- How Is Dwarfism Diagnosed?
- In some cases, dwarfism can be detected before birth through prenatal tests during pregnancy. However, in many cases, signs of dwarfism appear later after birth. The doctor will take the medical history and perform a physical examination, and may request additional procedures as needed, such as:
X-ray imaging.
Laboratory blood tests.
