This page provides everything you need to know about clubfoot.

What is clubfoot?

  • Clubfoot is a congenital deformity that affects the foot, causing one or both feet to turn inward. Clubfoot occurs due to a problem with the tendons, which are the tissues that connect muscles to bones. In children with clubfoot, the tendons in the leg and foot are shorter and tighter than normal.
  • There are twotypes of clubfoot:

Isolated or idiopathic clubfoot: This is the most common type. If the child has clubfoot without any other medical issues, it is called isolated clubfoot.

Non-isolated clubfoot: This occurs alongside other health problems, including arthrogryposis (a joint problem) and spina bifida (a neural tube disorder). Neural tube defects are problems affecting the brain, spine, and spinal cord.
